Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

So...what IS this thing called Sailor Moon? Well, for starters, it was originally a manga, or comic. Being so popular, it was turned into an anime, or Japanese animation. The story line follows a young teen named Usagi and the trials she faces. At the begining of the story, she is a crybaby. She sleeps all the time. She slacks. And she just seems to be a total flake. But as she learns she is the defender, Sailor Moon, she has to learn leadership. She doesn't seem to be the type to be a leader. But it is her heart and faith that make her a great character.Along the way, she gains friends who, in turn, turn out to be her fellow companions. There is even a Tuxedo Kamen, a guy who dresses in a tuxedo and mask and helps them fight the evil. They help her to fight all the evils that threaten their world and any world where there are innocents. In the first season, the driving force is the search for the guinzoushou, or the Silver Crystal.A powerful crystal that will allow the evil force, known as the Nega Force, to take over the Universe. The key to finding the crystal is by finding the Moon Princess, the Senshi's princess from a thousand years in the past.It seems that these warriors have been reborn into the present.Their past lives were once princesses from their respective planets. So the Senshi search for their princess, who was the ruling princess over all the other planets. What they later learn is that the princess is none other than their own Sailor Moon. They also learn that Tuxedo Kamen was the ruling Prince from Earth, and the love of the Princess. They loose Tuxedo Kamen to the Nega Force.Sailor Moon wants to get him back and refuses to give up. Here we see on of the traits that make her a wonderful leader. She never gives up. Though, she wants only to lead a normal life, she doesn't give the villains and slack.Eventually, through much hardships and trials, they defeat the Nega Force. And the World is saved. At least...for a season!

The story of Sailor Moon continues on. In the next season, the characters meet a girl named Chibi-Usa, who they later learn is Usagi and Mamoru's daughter in the future. They have to fight bad guys (and gals!) from the Nega Moon in the future who are searching for Chibi-Usa and Usagi.Of course, Sailor Moon eventually whips their little patooties!

Next Season. In this season we get to meet the outer senshi, from the outer planets of the solar system. The search this time is for star seeds, the essence of an individual. The evil is known as Pharoah 90 and his minion, Mistress 9.We meet a young girl named Hotaru, who we later learn is the dreaded Sailor Saturn because her coming hearalds the end.Hotaru also has the entity of Mistress 9 within her body. It is Mistress 9 who needs a pure heart to bring her forth. It is Chibi-Usa's (who has returned to train as a sailor senshi) star seed she swallows.Sailor Saturn is also known as the Messiah of Darkness. There is also the Holy Grail which Sailor Moon wields. In the end, Sailor Saturn gives up her life to destroy the evil.Sailor Moon is only able to save her soul, which has been transformed into an infant Hotaru. She has been given a second chance.

Fourth Season. This whole season is about the search for the dream mirrors. The bad guys are the Dead Moon Circus. They need to get the mirrors so that they can find Helios/Elios who is the priest of Elysion, which is the world that protects dreams, and Mamoru.Mamoru also gains the Golden Crystal, which is his power crystal by right. In the end, good conquers all.

By this point, Usagi is no longer the crybaby she once was. She is still very immature, but has prooved her worth more times than needed. Strangely, it is as if her leadership and simple love outshine her other nerving personality. No more so than in the last season of Bishoujosenshi Sailor Moon.

In the last season, we meet the Sailor Starlights and learn of the Sailor Wars.Apparently, there are more senshi than just those in our solar system. And it is some of those that our fellow soldiers must fight. The leader is a senshi named Galaxia, who was also the most powerful senshi in the universe.During the Sailor Wars, she traped Chaos in her body.Over time, it began to take over her.To keep it back, she began to take the Star Seeds from others. In this, Chaos corrupted her.We also meet Chibi-Chibi, who is the five year old transformed version of Sailor Cosmos, a senshi in the future and a believed to be the future self of Sailor Moon and her most powerful form. The Starlights are here looking for their princess, who is Kakyuu and also a senshi.(We get to meet a LOT of senshi in this season!)Together, the senshi have to fight GalaxiaIn the end, Sailor Moon doesn't want to fight Galaxia. She saw the good that still remained inside of her.And by her simple will, she saved her.

The ending note is that, even the most outrageous people can be the strongest. By the end of the show, Usagi has shown that she is more than what she seems. Her simple kindness and tender heart is what makes others like and respect her.It is for these reasons the others choose to follow her.Not because of her royal position or even that they feel obligated towards her.It is their love for her because of her endless hope and faith, her gentle kindness, and her belief that there is good in all.
